How Born Survivor and Race Space Boosted Brand Visibility with a High-Impact UGC Strategy

How to quickly and easily convert mass race participants into micro-influencers, sharing on-brand, consistent UGC content when they’re at their most excited

Why this is important for your race

People who complete mass participatory races always want to shout about their achievements, because they’ve accomplished something they’re proud of – whether that’s their first 5km or their 50th ultra-triathlon.

But where race organisers often fail is ensuring their branding – and partner logos – are visible.

Born Survivor, worked with their event growth partner Race Space to eliminate that challenge, using Format to give every Survivor a fast, simple way to create a personalised social graphics the moment they crossed the finish line.

Why it worked

‘We know participants are proud of the races they take on and want to share images of themselves,’ said Adam Smith, Account Manager at Race Space.

‘With Format we were able to harness this UGC into free, organic visibility for Born Survivor across social channels. The ability for participants to select the size, spec and image for their social asset led to a really good level of uptake and a library of authentic feeling assets.’

How it worked

A design was created in two aspect ratios to fit social Feed and Story placements. This was sent via Format’s UGC link to all participants after the event as part of their congratulatory email.

All they then had to do was click the link, upload a photo of themselves successfully surviving the event and share across their personal channels to celebrate with their friends and family, and in doing so, act as micro-influencers for Born Survivor, raising awareness and interest in their future events.

Seeing finishers sharing their own photos in branded graphics straight after the race was great to see. It felt celebratory, on brand and extended the buzz after race day beyond what we typically see.

Format

Enabling race participants to create branded assets to celebrate their successes is a great way to generate extra reach and revenue for your event – and in a way that can’t be any more credible or authentic.

Format’s solution is easy to set up for organisers, simple for participants to use and we’ve been delighted with its results.
